Zee Music in its current form was launched in 2000 as a revamped version of Music Asia, Zee's original music offering which was launched 1997. The channel aims to give its viewers the best in the name of music, be it songs, VJs, music videos, interviews or other information and entertainment. Despite entering a highly competitive market, Zee Music has maintained a strong and growing position in the market.

The channel reaches about 30% of CandS households in India, a relatively high number for a niche channel. The channel has maintained very high recall amongst consumer's, largely due to its fresh content and network support from other Zee channels.
